Brunch in the City Centre
I chose to write a second blog on brunch places; this time focusing on places in the city centre. With strathclyde being located in the city centre it felt right to mention places nearby for brunch as it can help break up long days at the uni/library.
Singl-end Merchant City
Singl-end is just a 3 minute walk from Strathclyde! Singl-end in the day time is a cafe serving brunch but by night turns into Slice- selling pizza and cocktails.
What did we order... As described on the menu
- The Betty- Grilled Halloumi, avocado smash, sriracha and poached eggs served on Altamura bread, added bacon
- Meaty Baked Eggs- Casserole of slow cooked pulled pork, njuda, crispy onions, cannellini beans in a smoky tomato sauce with eggs and sour dough bread
- The Crunchie Hot chocolate
The hot chocolate was possibly one of the best I've had in a long time. With toasted marshmallows, shavings of chocolate and bits of crunchie. The food was also exceptional, however a tad pricier than other brunch places but this was due to good portion sizes and the level of quality.
Verdict- I would definitely come here again, a varied menu and good selection of cakes and treats to takeaway

Wilson Street Pantry
Wilson Street Pantry is just a 7 minute walk from Strathclyde. It is a very chilled cafe offering breakfast, brunch, coffee and house cocktails. It also offers free wifi allowing the option to study whilst inside. It is usually advised to book on weekends as it can be very busy.
What did we order... As described on the menu
- sour dough bread with square sausage, bacon and poached eggs
- sour dough bread with salmon and poached eggs
- latte and iced latte
The food here was delicious and we had very quick service. The menu was not quite as extensive in comparison to the Singl-end but it did have a lot of options which would cater to most. The food was well presented with the eggs cooked to perfection.
Verdict- decent prices, lovely presentation and fast service
